Do you want to share your energy talent to move to a sustainable world? Then, the Master in Renewable Energy at Hanze University of Applied Sciences (Hanze UAS) is something for you!


The aim of the European master in Renewable Energy (RE) is to train post-graduate students to fill the gap between the growing industry demand for specialised RE expertise and the skills available in the job market.

EUREC Agency together with leading European Universities involved in renewable energy education and training have responded to this demand through the development of the European Master in Renewable Energy.

EUREC selected Hanze UAS to be the first University of Applied Sciences to offer the Master in Renewable Energy, because of its good facilities and research in the field of energy. It boasts extensive professional and academic networks both in and outside the Netherlands.

The North of the Netherlands has sublime expertise on energy transition. Because of many years of experience in gas transitions, this part of the country is a true energy region and has a huge national and international energy network. Hanze UAS is situated in the centre of this energy valley; it is the top sector in energy.

1st year

During the core semester, you acquire a solid foundation in the technical and engineering aspects related to innovative energy system design and implementation and their various related interdisciplinary aspects. Theoretical courses which also examine the socioeconomic issues surrounding the deployment of these technologies are supported by laboratory workshops.

For the core you can choose one of the following universities:

*Zaragoza University, Spain (Spanish)
*Loughborough University, UK (English)
*Oldenburg University, Germany (English)

In the second semester you specialise in a chosen technology at a different university. The specialisations are taught in English. For the specialisation you can choose one of the following universities:

*Sustainable Fuel Systems for Mobility (Hanze UAS, Netherlands)
*Photovoltaics (University of Northumbria, UK)
*Wind Energy (National Technical University Athens, Greece)
*Grid Integration (University of Zaragoza, Spain)
*Solar Thermal (University of Perpignan, France)
*Ocean Energy (IST Lisbon, Portugal)

characteristics

* Mentoring of students by professionals

* Students will study in at least two different EU countries.

* The balanced mix of theoretical and practical courses as well as the three-section structure including a six-month internship provide the students with high level technical and scientific competences and development of their professional skills.

curriculum

The entire programme is run on a modular basis with credits awarded for passing each section and the successful completion of the thesis research project. A total of 90 ECTS credits (30 for each section of the course) are required with a satisfactory level of achievement in all the sections to obtain the Master of Science degree.

Students are guaranteed to spend time in at least two different EU countries and make contact with a wide range of European institutes and companies involved in the renewable energy sector.

The International Student Office (ISO) handles all applications of foreign students who wish to enrol for this study programme. They also help students with all kind of practical matters, such as finding accommodation in Groningen, getting the right insurance and obtaining a visa (non-EU students).

job perspective

There is a need for highly skilled professionals with fundamental interdisciplinary knowledge, skills and tools to tackle challenges such as energy scarcity and evinornmental problems. The combination of technical, strategic, social and environmental issues encountered in the energy transition represents a significant multidisciplinary approach. It requires more senior technical professionals and highly educated engineers who can work with experts from other disciplines and carry out applied scientific research to come up with practical solutions, by doing applied research, consultancy work or providing strategy and policy advice.
