The International Communication majors (IC-majors) is a four-year bachelor programme which will prepare you for an (international) career in communication.


International Communication is a study programme for students with a curious eye to society. Who understand the effect of messages, news and campaigns, who feel comfortable using modern communication technology and who consider the world their home. Our students realise how important it is for companies, institutions and government to maintain an open relationship with their public: customers, supporters, citizens. In this programme you are trained to become a communication professional who builds up trust, is pro-active, innovative, creative, respectful and accountable.

Sounds challenging? So it should. Over the last few decades, modern communication methods have made the world a global village. But the continuing technological advances are changing the field of communication at a rapid pace. This requires today's communication professionals to be able to adapt in a field that is constantly on the move.

1st year

The first year serves as a general introduction to the world of communication. You will develop English language skills relevant for communication professionals. Throughout the year you will develop intercultural competencies and media skills and be introduced to research methods and communication theories.

IC majors allow you to specialise in one of three majors, so you can focus on an expertise in the broad field of communication.

curriculum

A focus on intercultural competencies is at the core of the International Communication (IC) programme. To work internationally, communication professionals must be culturally sensitive. During the first two years of the study you will follow intercultural-competence classes that open your eyes to worlds beyond your own. Our student body is made up of more than 40 nationalities. To get the benefit of such diversity you will be required to work in international groups.

The curriculum is competency-based. This means that in addition to the acquisition and transfer of knowledge, the programme stresses the development of analytical and interpersonal skills. You will experience a variety of teaching methods, including: lectures, class discussions, case studies, presentations and workshops.

job perspective

Students may be able to find work as a public relations advisor, communications coordinator, marketing communication consultant, public affairs officer, social media strategist, press officer and event manager.

study abroad

The third year is spent abroad. You will do an internship and fill your elective semester by either choosing a minor or studying abroad at one of our partner universities around the world.
