.At MFA MADtech (formerly MFA Interactive Media & Environments) we are constantly searching for the dialogue between different viewpoints from the past, present and future: between art and science, laboratory and applied research, stable and unstable media, old and new technology, local and global forms of society. We do so collectively, sharing our views and ideas, working in groups and learning from each other. At the same time, you will follow your own path, improving your knowledge and skills, learning to reflect critically on your own position, role and work as well as on the world around you.

Participants of our programme come from different practices, media, art and design, and share a fascination for technology. The combination of these areas gives you the opportunity to develop your artistic vision, working in a hybrid practice as a critical and engaged artist. As your art engages with the world, you will grow as a individual as well as in your artistic profession, reinforcing the power of your imagination and exploring your own connection to a transforming, technologically charged society.

international

Art and culture, including various museums, can be found around every corner. Groningen is the largest city in the Northern Netherlands with around 195,000 inhabitants, an abundance of students and two major universities: the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen. It is a friendly place, with plenty of shops, theatres, cafés, galleries, museums and parks, where it's easy to meet new people and build a network of contacts, especially in the world of art, culture and education. Groningen's architecture is certainly compelling: historical churches and towers stand next to new, state-of-the-art buildings. You'll find art everywhere in Groningen and its direct vicinity: in museums such as the Groninger Museum, Drents Museum, Fries Museum, Museum Belvédère, the Tschumi Pavilion Glass Video Gallery, the Wall House, Forum Images, and contemporary art galleries and experimental art spaces such as Sign and NP3.
