The two cities of Eskilstuna and Västerås are beautifully situated on both sides of Lake Mälaren, one of Sweden's largest inland lakes. The cities are large enough to provide a wide range of accommodation, cultural activities, shopping, entertainment and sporting facilities, but not so large that students fade into anonymity. As a result of the university's growth, students now make a colorful contribution to the urban scene. Communications to Stockholm are excellent from both cities; it only takes one hour by train to central Stockholm.
There is a real international feel to Mälardalen University. The Student Union arranges plenty of social activities and offers valuable support, especially to our international students. The International Committee, which is a part of the Student Union have a well developed "fadder" activity. This means that you as a new student get support from a student who has already spent some time at the University.
