This programme will train you to become a professional who is able to analyse and influence problematic childrearing situations so you can contribute to the innovation of pedagogic care systems.Childrearing is not always easy. The Master's programme in Orthopedagogy emphasises the childrearing needs of children, youth and parents. As a remedial educationalist, you can diagnose, treat and help prevent childrearing and development problems at home and/or in an institution. Moreover, you can contribute to the innovation of pedagogic care systems.

We offer you a programme with two specialisations ('tracks').
Orthopedagogical Care for Children, Youth and Parents (direct client contact)
Orthopedagogical Systems & Innovation (indirect client contact)

In the programme you will learn to research practical questions from an orthopedagogical viewpoint. This will enable you to help families and their surrounding networks (schools, neighbourhood teams, etc.). The Master's programme fulfils the requirements of the Dutch (Professional) Association of Educationalists (NVO) for registration as a general remedial educationalist. Following completion of the programme you can register as a general remedial educationalist and work as a behavioural scientist in various institutions for orthopedagogical care and childrearing issues.Childrearing is not always easy. admission

Indien je (bijna) beschikt over een HBO-diploma in de sector onderwijs, gedrag en maatschappij of gezondheidszorg kom je in aanmerking voor het instroomprogramma voor hbo'ers. Het instroomprogramma bereidt voor op het masterprogramma en bestaat uit twee fasen: een voorbereidend selectietraject en de pre-master. Na afronding van het selectietraject en de pre-master heb je automatisch toegang tot de master.

What's unique about the Utrecht Master's in Orthopedagogy is that we pay special attention to preparing you as an academic professional of the future: we offer you skills and knowledge in the area of scientific and professional integrity, legal aspects and ethical issues in orthopedagogy. You will be trained to become a critical thinker who can switch between theory and practice. In addition, we will prepare you for the future via labour market orientation. This means that during the programme you will already be exposed to professional practice and you will learn how to present and showcase yourself in the labour market.
NVO registration as a general remedial educationalist and a supplementary Basic Registration in Diagnostics (BAD).
This Master's programme fulfils the requirements of the Dutch (Professional) Association of Educationalists (NVO) for registration as a basic remedial educationalist. In addition, you can request the supplementary Basic Registration in Diagnostics (BAD) if you have chosen track 1 'Orthopedagogical Care for Children, Youth and Parents', if your internship allows you to work on it and you have successfully completed this part of the programme.

curriculum

In block 2, you will take an elective from another Master's programme or you can choose one of the following courses offered in cooperation with other Master's programmes in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences: - Developmental Neuropsychology (in cooperation with the Neuropsychology Master's programme) - School Psychology (in cooperation with the Clinical Child and Youth Psychology Master's programme) - Forensic Care (in cooperation with the Clinical Child and Youth Psychology Master's programme)

In block 3 you will take the core course 'Systemic Supervision'. The track you choose determines which assignments you will be given during this course.

The Academic Professional module runs throughout all four blocks. This module focuses on themes such as scientific and professional integrity, legal aspects, ethical issues and labour market orientation.

The internship teaches you working skills for your future career. Writing your thesis helps you become competent in conducting independent research.

job perspective

If you choose track 1 'Orthopedagogical Care for Children, Youth and Parents' and have successfully completed three client reports (case reports) during your internship according to the prescribed format of the NVO, you will receive a declaration with which you can apply for the supplementary Basic Registration in Diagnostics (BAD) from the NVO. You (only) need this extra registration if you wish to complete the post-Master's Health Psychologist programme. This supplementary registration is not required to attend other follow-up programmes.

objectives
