As a Legal Research student, you will receive high-quality contemporary teaching in a stimulating academic environment. Our inspiring and committed faculty researchers, such as Professor Anna Gerbrandy and Professor Robert Widdershoven will share their knowledge with you and encourage you to take part in or help organise activities like conferences and seminars.They may also invite you to assist in their own research.

curriculum

This programme begins in September. You will start with five compulsory subjects and the compulsory course Academic Writing and Presentation Skills. In addition, you will complete three research projects, take three optional courses, and write a Master's thesis. With respect to the optional courses, you are (in principle) free to choose from the entire range of legal disciplines on offer within the Utrecht University School of Law. You are, however, expected to develop your own research profile

Due to the unique nature of the Legal Research Master – a combination of acquiring research skills and completing internships at district courts or courts of appeals, etc. – many LRM students find a job well in advance of their graduation. As far as we know, no graduates are unemployed. LRM graduates pursue careers in academia as PhD students, work as (corporate) lawyers, and enrol in the Academy of Legislation. objectives

This Master's programme not only prepares you for a legal career as a practitioner in the commercial, public service or academic sector, it also offers an excellent foundation for further studies at PhD level. As part of this programme, you will complete courses in legal research skills, as well as within your field of preference. You will also spend approximately one year engaged in legal research projects and writing a thesis.

Graduates are specialists in their field, thanks to the two year programme focusing both on (interdisciplinary) research skills and a self chosen legal discipline. tuition fee

Students obliged to pay the institutional fee can apply for the fee-waiver scholarship.

Special scholarships of Legal Research Students
* Scholarship for non-EU students: fee waiver (amount of the institutonal tuition fee)
* Scholarship for foreign students (EU and non-EU): 2 scholarships of €5000,- a year.
Scholarships will be granted to excellent students and will be renewed the second year, in case the student has successfully finished the first year.
