In Research in Public Administration and Organizational Science you will gain knowledge about societal problems and critical challenges faced by organisations in the public domain.

This challenging two-year programme focuses on key issues of Public Administration and Organisation Theory. The programme offers an in-depth investigation of societal problems and critical challenges faced by organisations - government agencies, not for profits, citizen groups, form - involved in public value creation.

Public administrators respond to societal challenges by initiating reforms to make public management less bureaucratic and more accountable, activating and enabling citizens, helping businesses become more competitive while enhancing social responsibility, and supporting civil society initiatives to provide voluntary community services.
You will gain the theoretical knowledge and methodological skills to analyse these initiatives and organizational and governance processes, such as strategic management, policy design and delivery, citizen engagement, public accontability, institutional learning. Our programme will also help you understand and analyse the classic questions of Public Administration and Organization Theory as they are playing out in contemporary contexts. It will also provide you with the tools to design effective intervention strategies.

This program focuses on the new challenges that public governments at all levels face. These flow from long-term trends such as Europeanization, globalization, changing information and communication technologies, climate change and societal fragmentation, issues related to migration and individualization, and increasing cultural pluralization.

The Master's Program starts with deepening your theoretical knowledge of central themes in Public Administration and Organization Science, such as public policy, public management, bureaucracy and public service, and human resource management. It provides a solid basis in the philosophy of science and a wide variety of research methods. All this prepares the ground for a theory-oriented or policy-oriented research project that is the core of the Program's second year.
This Master's Program prepares you for a career in which theoretically informed analysis and critical assessment of research findings are essential requirements: for example a university researcher, researcher with a research institute or think tank, as a policy advisor or consultant.
