The Public International Law track of the LLM programme in International and European Law provides students with a solid understanding of the general principles and structures of international law.
The programme allows for specialisation in diverse areas of international law, like human rights law, environmental law, criminal law and economic law.
The Public International Law track is taught by leading international law scholars with a high academic reputation and broad experience in the practice of international law. In addition to lectures, most courses are taught in smaller seminars or working groups allowing for a challenging exchange of ideas on the latest developments and academic insights in this dynamic area of law.

The Public International Law curriculum provides students with a broad knowledge of general international law. The wide variety of elective courses allows students to specialise in particular areas of public international law such as human rights law, humanitarian law/the law or armed conflict, international criminal law, and international environmental law. 1

This track is designed to prepare graduates for an international career in European or international institutions, international business, law firms, goverment departments or non govermental organisations. For those who have obtained a Bachelor's in law at the UvA, the completion of the programme results in 'civil effect' in the Netherlands, meaning it gives access to the Dutch bar and magistracy.
objectives
The Public International Law track aims to advance research and writing skills and to involve students in the practical application of international law. This may be accomplished through enrolment in the Amsterdam International Law Clinic, the International Law in Domestic Courts project or one of the international moot court competitions in which the University participates.
