The Master's in Islam in the Modern World is a one-year programme that offers you an in-depth interdisciplinary framework to engage topics and debates concerning Islam and modernity.
The Master's programme Islam in the Modern World provides advanced knowledge in the field of Islamic studies and insight into contemporary issues related to Islam. It offers a unique preparation for engaging with debates and policies concerning the processes defining the place of Muslims and Islam in modern societies, and is embedded in a broad range of research projects related to Islam in Europe, the historical tradition, reformism and modernity, as well as the history of Orientalism.
The programme offers an integrated, interdisciplinary approach that integrates perspectives from the humanities and the social sciences. Students can specialise in historical, religious and political aspects of Islam, and focus on qualitative research concerning the position of Muslims in modern society. Both approaches will be connected in courses focusing on the relationship between historical, religious and social issues.
