The Research Master's programme in Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies focuses on the interdisciplinary study of Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies Research Master's programme focuses on interdisciplinary study of the material, social, and intellectual developments in Europe (including the Mediterranean region) from Antiquity through the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Within this long period you can focus on your academic interests by choosing one of four tracks:
1. Ancient Studies
2. Medieval Studies
3. Medieval Celtic Studies
4. Renaissance Studies.

The Utrecht Programme is judged best in the field in the Netherlands by the Keuzegids Master's Selection Guide 2015.

The curriculum is different for each track. Compulsory courses are: Fundamentals for Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies; AMRS tutorials, Research School tutorials.

job perspective

The Research Master's programme is designed for students with the ability and ambition to pursue an academic career. Approximately half of our graduates has started a PhD programme in the Netherlands or abroad. Others have remained in the academic sphere with careers in secondary and higher education, museums, archives, publishing, translation. Yet others have found jobs in management, politics or the arts. Almost all graduates found a job within two years of graduating.
